Comforting Steel-Cut Oats

Comforting Steel-Cut Oats

whole grains

Steel cut oats are oat groats that have been cut in half with a steel blade - true story!

Oat groats are technically the "whole grain" variety of oats, but the truth is that we are fans of all oats from steel cut, to rolled, and even "quick oats" from time to time.

Steel cut oats are particularly delicious because of their thick, creamy consistency. They feel heartier than classical rolled oats, in my opinion - and they also have more fiber and nutrition.

The banana and cinnamon in this recipe adds natural sweetness and an even more creamy consistency.

On the stove top, steel cut oats cook in about 25-45 minutes depending on your preferred consistency (and altitude!). Of course you can also put them in a pressure cooker.

Another little "hack" is putting them into a pot of boiling water and then immediately turning off the stove. Then, the oats naturally cook slowly over night and can be reheated in the morning.

Let us know how they turn out!
