Free Radical Quenching Oatmeal

sweet whole grains

You've probably heard that darkly colored berries and other purple foods like purple potatoes, purple cabbage, and purple cauliflower are good for you - but why is that? The dark pigments that give them their beautiful color are the same compounds with a strong anti-oxidant effect on the body. By "antioxidants," we mean that they help to neutralize free radicals - pesky unstable molecules that can wreak havoc in the body, causing micro-injuries and inflammation.

The more antioxidants we can consume, the better. That's why we like to load up our oatmeal with pretty and anti-oxidative berries like you see in this oatmeal recipe.
