Episode Summary

You probably know how to breathe. And you probably don't think much about it. But, So many people are actually walking around breathing totally improperly, which leads to a whole host of health conditions, both in terms of our physiology and our psychology.

The breath is the link between mind and body and in this episode we talk about how to consciously use breath to modulate both our physiology and our psychology.

Some take aways include...

  • Nose breathing is VERY important

  • Mouth breathing can be a major cause of sleep apnea (and a poor nights sleep)

  • The nose filters air and removes toxins and pathogens

  • Your mouth is designed for eating (and speaking)

  • The diaphragm contracts to pull air into your lungs

  • Stale air and toxins often rest in stagnant air at the base of the lungs

  • Inhalation activates the sympathetic (stress response) nervous system

  • Exhalation promotes the parasympathetic (rest, digest, heal) branch of the ANS
